ORIHUELA COSTA BUSINESSES DEMAND ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL STREET VENDORS

The Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela has joined forces with various businesses on the Orihuela Costa to demand that authorities, including the town hall of Orihuela and the provincial and regional governments, take drastic and urgent measures to eradicate illegal street selling along the coast.

This is not the first time that complaints have been made, in particular against the “looky-looky men” and other unauthorized traders typically found on the Aguamarina and Cabo Roig beach promenades.

Local businesses are so fed up that they have demanded action and want to know exactly what the authorities are going to do to tackle the problem, which they say is affecting their own legal businesses.

Mario Martínez, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela, has said that the coast needs these local businesses to flourish as they help generate employment, tourism and money for the local economy. Not only that, he added, but they also pay their taxes and social security, work according to the law and are exposed to being sanctioned if they do not comply.
