BIG CLEAN-UP OF TORREVIEJA STREETS STARTS THIS WEEK

San Luis, La Siesta & El Chaparral First on List

A massive clean-up of Torrevieja’s streets and urbanisations began earlier this week as part of a new action plan put in place by Torrevieja Mayor Eduardo Dolón.

In a press release, the Mayor together with the councillor for Urban Street Cleaning, Carmen Gómez Candel, said the proposal to properly clean, disinfect and maintain certain areas of Torrevieja was long overdue and that this measure is being seen as urgent.

Dolón added that the lack of cleanliness of Torrevieja’s roads and communal areas has always been at the top of the list of complaints from many Torrevieja residents

The plan, which began first thing on Wednesday morning, will continue until the end of August and a total of 117,000€ is being invested into the project per month.

The first areas to be tackled include El Chaparral, La Siesta and San Luis and will be followed by El Limonar, El Salado and Altos del Limonar. Following this, the cleanup programme will move to Torreta III, Torreta II and Torreta-Florida and then Lago Jardín, Los Balcones, Los Altos, La Veleta, Mar Azul and Punta Prima and finally Aguas Nuevas, Calas Blancas, Torreblanca, Los Frutales and Villasol.

Among the many procedures to be carried out, the most urgent and first to be undertaken will be an indepth clearing and cleaning of all roads and pavements with subsequent herbicide treatment; jetwashing of the roads; cleaning of waste containers; removal of waste that has been dumped on the roads by the bins; 200 new containers deposited across the municipality together with 30 new containers to collect glass and bottles.

The normal procedure for emptying bins and cleaning will not be affected as 23 new personnel have been employed and will use special machinery solely for the purpose of this project. Gómez Candel has asked for residents to be patient while the plan is put into action, particularly if any inconveniences are caused, although she stressed that the utmost care will be taken to ensure that residents are disturbed as little as possible
