We’ve had the reunion tour and now it seems Spice Girls fans are getting more of what they really, really want, with a new animated film reportedly in the works.
And more exciting for Wannabes is the news that even Posh Spice Victoria Beckham, who said no to the comeback gigs, is apparently on board.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria is bringing girl power to the silver screen once again with a film that will feature Spice Girls classics as well as new songs.
All five original band members are supporting the project, according to the magazine.
The band “had an idea that we’ve been developing”, Soria is quoted as saying. “They are very involved.”
If the project goes ahead, it will not be the Spice Girls’ first foray into film – all five starred in Spice World, alongside the now Oscar nominee Richard E Grant in 1997.
And they have also been animated before, having been turned into Spice fairies in the video for the 1998 single Viva Forever – the group’s last recording with Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell, now Geri Horner, before her departure.
The news comes as Horner, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm get ready for the final dates of the comeback tour – their first live shows since the London 2012 Olympics – which culminates with three shows at Wembley.
Despite criticism of the sound by some gig-goers at the first few shows in Dublin and Cardiff, the tour has gone down well with fans.
