British Tourist causes an uproar on social media over ‘gifts’ left to Benidorm hotel staff

A tourist from Britain has caused a social media storm after posting a picture of the ‘tip’ she left for cleaning staff at a hotel in Benidorm

Known by the name of Lizzie AE Hansbury on Facebook left the cleaners of her hotel room a pair of sunglasses that she no longer wanted, several half-used bottles of products such as shower gel, shampoo, body spray and an exfoliating shower pouffe. She also left a note written in Spanish thanking the staff for their hard work and offered toys and sweets ‘in case they had little ones’

But group members on the ‘Benidorm Seriously’ Facebook group reacted angrily with over 200 comments condemning Hansbury’s actions.

One user suggested that:

“I’m thinking the cleaners would appreciate some €€€€ as a tip rather than the leftover toiletries, I find it rather demeaning, would anyone leave the cleaners in the UK hotels leftover shampoo as a tip for cleaning?”

While a user called Ian said

The staff work hard for very poor wages. Instead of insulting them with all the crap you would throw away anyway do the decent thing and leave a decent cash tip (at least 1 Euro per day).
“You spend thousands on your Benidorm holiday but you can’t afford to leave a decent tip?

Unbelievable someone does something nice for a change and get abuse for it.
